One of a Kind Pioneer Girl Skirt Wearable Art by DoubleCatBatik
|
 |
My interpetation of Folk-of-Art-Friends "All-for-One Doll Challenge." This is unique and one-of-a-kind Wearable Art, sure to be noticed around the barn or wherever. A practical person, I make things for everyday wear.
I made the skirt with all new fabric and embellished it with a collage of new and vintage fabric, synthetic yarn, and buttons.

I like wearable art. It doesn't have to match your house. You don't have to clean your house to show it off.

The skirt is made from lightweight denim with eyelet gores to keep the dkirt light and airy. The five denim panels are slightly tapered near the waistband. The fabrics are sewn securely by machine using straight stitch and overlock. I chose acrylic yarn because it is more washable than wool or silk.
Pictures at the bottom of this listing will show you construction details.

This shows the skirt on me, I have a 30" waist. It's a little too big. It could be worn for up to a 38" waist. (measure honestly, no vanity) It's not quite 30" long and can be worn at the waist or slightly below the waist. Hidden belt loops help to keep it in place.

Machine wash no bleach, Tumble dry, remove promptly. Iron as needed. These pictures were all taken after the skirt was machine washed and dried, without ironing.

Here is the Pioneer Girl. She is appliqued on by machine. She's got a little age on her, but she still enjoys going barefoot and feeding the birds. Her sack is hand embroidered with the word "SEEDS."
She is very loosley filled with polyester fiberfil. Her bloomers go all the way up, you can look up her skirt if you don't belive me.

She is out in a field filled with dandelions, some are still in bloom, some are going to seed. You can see the seeds floating around in the breeze.

Here, you can see the appliques in relief. They are very 3-D and very textural, but not too heavy.

Here are the seams details I promised. Each seam is overlocked to stop fraying and keep the skirt lightweight, then stitched down for smoothness.
The hidden loops make it adjustable, choose the one that best fits you. There are 7" from the first to the last.
